Here’s a huge Ichthyosaur vertebra we found in a rock pool! How long had it been sat there? The surrounding nodule was coated in natural pyrite which we had to remove using the tools at home. We also found a spherical nodule, we hoped it would contain an Eleganticeras ammonite from the Jurassic! 😍 With a smooth strike of the hammer the rock split perfectly in half to reveal some beautifully preserved specimens 🦕🦖🏝 Thanks for supporting our page! 🐊 #natural #nature #fossil #fossils #ancient

This is a stunning ancient marine reptile called an ichthyosaur. Oh, and it is the only known example of the ichthyosaur called Leptonectes moorei. The fossil was discovered in 1995 by friend and renowned fossil hunter, Chris Moore. It comes from the roughly 190 million year old Jurassic rocks from the foreshore at Seatown, Dorset.
