What looks like a glowing rainbow cloud is a real atmospheric phenomenon called cloud iridescence. It occurs when sunlight is diffracted by very small, uniformly sized water droplets or ice crystals within thin clouds. This diffraction separates white light into pastel colors, similar to what happens in a soap bubble or oil film. The effect is most visible when the Sun is partially obscured and the cloud droplets are nearly the same size, allowing constructive interference of specific wavelength
