Today in Rock and Roll History – October 29, 1968 On this day, BJ Thomas released one of the most enduring pop hits of the late 1960s — “Hooked On A Feeling” — on Scepter Records. The song entered the Billboard Hot 100 that December and climbed all the way to #5 in early 1969. Though it surprisingly failed to chart in the U.K., it became an instant classic in the U.S. and showcased Thomas’s smooth, soulful voice and crossover appeal. Written by Mark James, who would later pen “Suspicious Minds”
