This morning, Superintendent Wanda Ortiz-Rivera read to Tatiana Arango’s third-grade bilingual class as part of North Elementary School’s Guest Reader Day. She chose to read "Prietita y la Llorona" by Gloria Anzaldúa to a room full of joyful bilingual students. It’s a powerful tale of courage, kindness, and the magic of cultural storytelling. Andersen Elementary 5th grade teacher Cory Allen, the district’s Teacher of the Year last year, gave an emotional speech during the 2025-26 Teacher of the Year ceremony. Southeast Elementary Students Tackle Obesity Roughly 360 students at Southeast Elementary School joined UnitedHealthcare and NYS Senator Tom Croci in the challenge to combat obesity through the use of technology (activity trackers, mobile games, and non-sedentary video games).
