It’s Monday = waxing day around here ✨ The kiln finished a bisque load over the weekend, which means I’ve got plenty to glaze this week. The very first step after bisque is waxing the bottoms of every piece. Not every potter does this, but it works beautifully for us. We melt down a solid block of wax in an electric skillet (thrift store find!) and dip each pottery foot to create a thin wax layer that repels glaze. Why wax? Because glaze and kiln shelves do not mix. Every foot has to be complete
