Celebrating the National Key Deer Refuge's 60th Anniversary this week. We often get asked how the Key deer get from island to island. Its pretty simple, they either walk or swim. This helps them move about the lower Florida Keys pretty easily, although they prefer to stay on the islands that have natural freshwater wetlands. Although most of the population resides on Big Pine and No Name Keys, they range all the way westward to Upper and Lower Sugarloaf Keys. Video Credit: Mary Lou Dickson | Flo

It's really hot out! If you want to see the most wildlife, and capture the best photo opportunities at National Key Deer Refuge, it's best to get out early in the morning or wait until an hour or two before sunset. Just a reminder that the key deer find plenty of healthy natural food by themselves, so please don't feed them; it's not healthy for them, and it's against the law. Please help us spread the word.
