Forsythia is one of the earliest spring bloomers. The flowers that come out in the spring were set on the stems last spring. So if anyone pruned your for Forsythia in fall or before it bloomed this winter/spring, you probably don’t have any flowers this year. You should prune your Forsythia within two weeks of the yellow flowers falling off in spring. Forsythias are just finishing blooming where I live and as with any flowering shrub or tree, it’s a good time to prune them as soon as possible after they bloom. You can be brutal with these and they recover nicely. They can get totally out of control if you don’t and as you can see, it’s sort of hard to tell that the second example was pruned at all.
