Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument is located in southwest New Mexico, in the Gila Wilderness at the headwaters of the Gila River. Established by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1907, the 533-acre monument protects cliff dwellings built by the Mogollon people. The site sits in rugged, forested terrain ranging from 5,700 to 7,300 feet in elevation.
