I am very fortunate that one of my main filming locations for barbel is on the River Wharfe, on waters managed by the Wetherby & District Angling Club. This area is ideal due to its depth, water clarity, and the opportunity to enter the water and film the fish in their natural environment. I am also able to film barbel of all year classes, from newly born juveniles to fully grown adults. That famous barbel roll, fully grown adult barbel or even the younger barbel including baby barbel all do it and so do there cousins so to speak (gudgeon). So here is the question. What are your thoughts on why they roll in the water? Consider also we have filmed them rolling in midwater and just under the surface.
