Today is important astronomically as there is an inferior conjunction of Mercury occurring, and since Earth is currently in the latter half of a coronal hole high-speed solar wind impact, soon a direct magnetic coupling will occur between the Sun, Mercury, and Earth.

NASA’s Cassini spacecraft captured this view of Europa and Io transiting Jupiter during its 2000 flyby, with the Great Red Spot visible below. Both moons show partial shadowing as they cross the planet’s turbulent atmosphere. Jupiter’s immense gravity, over 300 times Earth’s mass, governs the orbital dance of its four Galilean moons and drives the intense tidal heating responsible for Io’s extreme volcanism, the most active in the solar system. That same gravitational flexing is thought to maint
