Since taking control of NC's election boards in spring 2025, Republicans have aggressively slashed early voting sites and voting hours. A December analysis by the nonpartisan group Common Cause found that Republican boards in 24 of NC’s 100 counties are either reducing the number of polling places or the number of voting hours, including at the nation's largest historically Black college, NC A&T University.
