Sep 20, 2017. #1. I currently use AT&T service but I'd like to buy an unlocked sim-free iPhone X when it comes out. Unfortunately that option doesn't seem to be available like it is on the iPhone 8. My confusion is that when I select AT&T and then select the pay in full option, I can see it says "unlocked with AT&T sim" on the Apple website.

Jul 24, 2021 · macrumors 601. There is no truth to this. All carrier lock does is lock the phone to a particular network, in your case AT&T. You cannot use that device on another network (for example Verizon) unless you get an unlock code from AT&T and unlock the device. AT&T will only do this when the phone is fully paid off.

Prepaid carriers in the U.S. don't have contracts. Anybody can buy an iPhone 11 for $299 and walk out the door without signing anything.

Activated my sim free 13 pro earlier, I went to the Verizon site, not the my Verizon app, then account, my devices, activate or switch device, activate an existing line, chose my line, entered my IMEI2 (must use the 2 for the ESim) and was up and running in under 2 minutes.
