The news comes as numerous wildfires are actively burning across the state. The DNR's order bans outdoor burning, campfires, the use of charcoal briquettes and prescribed burns on all forest land the DNR manages through Sept. 30. That date is subject to change, the DNR said.

A no-burn order was issued for Athens County, among 23 other counties in southeast and central Ohio, Sept. 13 due to severe drought and higher susceptibility to fire. Athens Fire Chief Bob Rymer said 25% of the City of Athens is either forested or some type of undeveloped land, which is more susceptible to brush fires.

According to news releases from both counties, drought conditions have caused both counties to go into a burn ban. Both Parke and Vigo counties have cited that camp and recreational fires are banned, along with open-burning (besides grills) or the burning of debris.
