Its simplified yet powerful features and neatly arranged locks of hair may have likened Augustus, the first emperor of Rome, to Greek heroes of the Classical Age.

The shape of the head, arrangement of the hair and surface details indicate a portrait of the first Emperor, Augustus (27 BC-14 AD) as he appeared in later life.
