A volcano erupted again to the south of Iceland's capital on Tuesday, spewing lava and smoke in a fiery display of orange and red that triggered some evacuations, although air traffic continued as normal.

Iceland's famous Blue Lagoon spa also closed after the Sundhnjukagigar volcano started spouting lava on Tuesday and the village Grindavik was evacuated, apart from eight residents who refused to leave.

A fishing village in southwest Iceland was evacuated Tuesday after lava began spewing from a volcanic eruption, the eighth to hit the region since the end of 2023.
