Gov. Greg Abbott has again ordered state troopers and Texas National Guard soldiers to Austin ahead of the protest, calling the planned demonstrations "Antifa-linked" despite their sponsorship by groups like the ACLU, League of Women Voters and Sierra Club.

Local organizers say as many as 10,000 were expected to pack Travis Park and march through downtown Saturday afternoon.

Thousands of demonstrators participated in No Kings protests across Collin County, a historically Republican stronghold.

The majority of those gathered were part of the No Kings rally with a smaller group of people there to show their support for the Trump administration.

The No Kings Day of Defiance has been organized to reject authoritarianism, billionaire-first politics, and the militarization of the country’s democracy, according to a statement by organizers.

This summer, organizers said more than 5 million people participated in No Kings protests against President Trump. Organizers say they expect an even bigger turnout this time around.

The "No Kings" movement has previously organized mass rallies against the policies of the president, coordinating 1,800 protests across the United States on June 14, the birthday shared by Trump and the U.S. Army, as the military branch marked 250 years in the spring.
