Kentucky Derby winner, Sovereignty, is set for a rematch with Preakness Stakes winner, Journalism, having finished first and second, respectively, in the first leg of the Triple Crown. Journalism was originally favored to win the 2025 Kentucky Derby with 5-1 morning line odds.

Sovereignty, who entered the race with 2-to-1 odds, defeated a field of seven challengers. Journalism finished in second place.

Ridden by Junior Alvarado, Sovereignty swept past favored Journalism in the stretch and powered to victory. Journalism held on for second, with Baeza getting up for third.
