CLEVELAND, Ohio - A cleaning crew found a body under a mattress while emptying a garage on Cleveland’s West Side on Wednesday. Officers from the Second District responded at 2:15 p.m. to the 3200 block of West 48th Street after receiving a report of a body, police said.
An employee at an Eastpointe McDonald's restaurant is accused of fatally stabbing a co-worker Thursday morning after an argument, police said. The incident happened around 8 a.m. Thursday at the McDonald's in the 17900 block of 9 Mile Road in Eastpointe.
Providence asks judge to block police sergeant who beat handcuffed man from returning to active duty
PROVIDENCE — Mayor Brett Smiley’s administration asked a judge Thursday to allow the city to fire embattled Sergeant Joseph Hanley, who is set to be reinstated to active duty at the police department in September despite being captured on camera kicking, punching and berating a handcuffed man five years ago.
Nafis Betrand-Hill was shot and killed in April 2023. Now more than two years later, police have charged Zaakir McClendon with murder.

A Detroit man was arrested in Shelby Township after a pistol was allegedly found during a traffic stop, Shelby Township Police reported. The traffic stop occurred at approximately 2 a.m. June 24 near Van Dyke and 21 Mile Road. During the stop, the driver allowed officers to search his vehicle, a silver Chrysler.
PROVIDENCE – Following a years-long investigation, Rhode Island State Police have arrested 11 people who are allegedly responsible for crimes in the Providence area dating back through 2023, officials said. Police said Tuesday “Operation Brick Houses” began after a shooting on Interstate 95 near the Providence Place Mall on Oct. 21, 2023.
