NetEase Games surprises fans by announcing that players will soon be able to participate in a new Spring Festival event within Marvel Rivals.

The first Dracula-themed season of Marvel Rivals has kicked off and will see the Fantastic Four added to the game. Two members of Marvel's first family, Mister Fantastic and Susan "The Invisible Woman" Storm, are already available, and the Human Torch and The Thing will join them at a later date.

Then again, the Marvel Rivals developers have the luxury of watching a similar game strike its own course and falter over the years. Overwatch had an incredibly strong start as a hero shooter. The opening cinematic — a museum fight where Tracer and Winston faced off against Reaper and Winston over the powerful Doomfist relic — was absolutely electrifying.

Look, I know half the conversation around Marvel Rivals is taken up with comparing it to its obvious inspiration, Overwatch 2, but sometimes it’s hard to talk about much else when developer NetEase continues to copy Overwatch 2’s homework and makes little effort to hide it.
