Veteran defense attorney Hank Brennan will lead prosecutors' retrial of Karen Read, bringing a fresh set of eyes to the controversial case.

A Massachusetts district attorney on Wednesday appointed a special prosecutor, who has represented James “Whitey” Bulger and other prominent clients in the past, to take on the Karen Read murder case.

The full state Supreme Judicial Court is tentatively scheduled to hear oral arguments in November in Karen Read’s bid to reverse a lower court ruling denying her motion to dismiss two of the three charges pending against her in her high-profile legal saga.
