Democrats’ path to take back control of the House of Representatives has narrowed as Republicans outperformed expectations up and down the ballot and Donald Trump retook the White House, but the outcome of dozens of races makes it too close to call as of early Wednesday morning.

The 2024 elections have delivered key wins in select states that will significantly shift the control of Congress to Republicans.

House control is still up for grabs with more than two dozen races left to be called. Republicans are looking to grow their Senate majority with seats still undecided in Nevada and Arizona.

Democrats’ path to retake control of the House of Representatives got slimmer as more races were called on Wednesday and Thursday. The party needs a net gain of four seats in order to win back the majority in Congress’ lower chamber.

Democrats picked up two seats in New York and defended others in Michigan and New Mexico, but Republican gains have narrowed their path, setting up a potential G.O.P. trifecta.

Republican leaders projected confidence Thursday that they will keep control of the U.S. House as more races were decided in their favor, while Democrats insisted they still see a path toward the majority and sought assurances every vote will be counted.
