SB Nation on MSNWings Things: Dallas Wings topple defending WNBA champion New York Liberty, 92-82
Arike Ogunbowale tied the Dallas Wings’ franchise record with 14 assists and scored a team-high 20 points in the win over the New York Liberty.
Clearly, the Liberty are the better team this season. Being able to pull off such an upset is great for the mood in Dallas and gives a preview of what could come in the future. With Bueckers and Ogunbowale leading the way, the Wings seem to be heading in the right direction.
Cory Woodroof of " For the Win " has proposed a trade sending Ogunbowale to the league-leading Minnesota Lynx for Diamond Miller, a 2026 third-round pick, and a 2027 first-round pick.
One of the big-name spectators who was in attendance for Monday’s clash was UConn Huskies guard Azzi Fudd, who is rumored to be the girlfriend of Wings rookie Paige Bueckers. Fudd, who was teammates with Bueckers at Connecticut for four years, made her feelings for the latter abundantly clear with a statement shirt for Monday’s game.
Back in 2022, about 1.2 million fans paid to see a WNBA game during the regular season — and by 2024, that number more than doubled. Now, halfway through the 2025 season, the WNBA is on a victory tour. TV ratings are up 23% from last year.
The Dallas Wings (7-18) play host to the Las Vegas Aces (12-13) on Sunday at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
The Wings cruised past the Dream in their second meeting, 68-55 as 8.5-point home underdogs on June 24. Atlanta shot a dreadful 23% from the field, including 7-of-34 from 3-point range.
