Like our moon, Deimos is tidally locked to Mars, meaning the same side always faces the planet—the only side visible to rovers on the Martian surface. The only way to see Deimos’ far side up close is ...
ISAE-SUPAERO is actively collaborating in the international Hera probe program through the research work of Naomi Murdoch and the SSPA team. The probe, which is en route to study the asteroid ...
Martian moon Deimos seen crossing the face of Mars in this sequence of Thermal Infrared Imager images acquired during the Hera mission's gravity-assist flyby of Mars on March 12, 2025.
The Hera probe from the European Space Agency (ESA) recently captured spectacular images of Deimos, the smallest moon of Mars, during a close flyby. Deimos, the moon of Mars, appears in silhouette ...
A space exploration mission to study an asteroid that NASA deliberately crashed a spacecraft into three years ago has taken stunning bonus images of Mars and its moon Deimos en route to its final ...
While on a flyby of Mars, Hera was able to use three of its imaging instruments to capture images of Deimos, the smaller of Mars' two moons, the ESA said. Deimos is about 15,000 miles from Mars.
The images presented show Deimos set against a backdrop of the Red Planet below it as Hera flew within 3,100 miles (5,000 kilometers) of Mars and just 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) of Deimos.

While the car-sized spacecraft flew around the Mars system, flight controllers on Earth temporarily lost communication with ...
During the flyby, the probe captured unique images of the Red Planet, as well as one of its moons, Deimos, from a new perspective. On Thursday, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cologne announced ...
Hera, European Space Agency’s (ESA) flagship planetary defense mission that launched in October 2024, took images of Mars and Deimos, one of its two moons, yesterday. The mission’s flyby was ...
