Thailand's deportation of 40 Uyghurs to China last week was in the Southeast Asian country's best interest due to the possibility of retaliation from Beijing if the group was sent elsewhere, a Thai minister said on Thursday.

Councilors passed two resolutions: one “ in support of immigrant’s rights legislation ” pending at the State House, and another “ denouncing the rollback of temporary protected status ” for Haitians, Venezuelans, and others. The former was approved with a 10-2 vote, while the latter was approved unanimously.

Military planes, including C-17 and C-130 aircraft, were used for deportations as part of the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Since January, around 30 flights have been conducted using C-17s, and about a dozen with C-130s, transporting migrants to destinations including India.

A local real estate agency told The Dispatch that the customer accused of writing an offensive note to a restaurant employee is no longer employed.

The protest, promoted on social media as a “mass mobilization against mass deportation," was led by the San Bernardino-based Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice.
