The Trump administration will no longer consider Syria’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the group led by Syria’s interim president, a foreign terrorist organization, according to a notice from Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

President Donald Trump's administration on Monday revoked the foreign terrorist organization designation for Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, as Washington moves to remove U.S. sanctions on Syria to help the country rebuild following years of a civil war.

The US is set to take the Syrian Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) off its list of foreign terrorist organisations on Tuesday, according to a state department memo. The group led a rebel offensive in December that toppled the Assad regime, which had ruled Syria for 54 years. Its leader Ahmed al-Sharaa is now the country's interim president.
