Area school districts might have been impacted by the cyberattack of a nationwide education software cloud-based platform called PowerSchool, used to store sensitive student data.

Greenville Public Schools said that through their communications with PowerSchool, they learned that the records of current GPS students were accessed.

The breach is the latest in a series of high-profile cybersecurity incidents affecting K-12 schools, which are a top target of hackers and are uniquely vulnerable to cyberattacks.
