If the Giants lose as a heavy underdog Sunday to the Lions, they will become the NFL’s first team eliminated from playoff contention if any of the following results also happen: a Seahawks win or tie as heavy favorites against the Titans, a Vikings win against the Packers or a Cowboys win against the Eagles.

With Brock Purdy back in the lineup, the computer seems to be a big fan of the 49ers (7-4). San Francisco is being given a 80.4% chance of making the postseason, which means the computer is pretty confident that the NFC West is going to be sending three teams into the playoffs.

The AFC playoff race entering Week 12 can be divided into two sections: The three two-loss teams (Denver, New England and Indianapolis) and everybody else. The Jacksonville Jaguars are in the “everybody else” category of teams with a 6-4 record entering their game at Arizona on Sunday, Nov. 23.

A winning record still has the Chargers in control of their playoff destiny, at least at face value. As Chargers.com’s Eric Smith pointed out, The Athletic still gives the Chargers a 64 percent chance. ESPN is right behind at 63 percent. The chance stays at an even 60 percent when looking at the numbers from NFL’s Next Gen Stats.
