Hoax bomb threats, many of which appeared to originate from Russian email domains, were directed on Tuesday at polling locations in five battleground states - Georgia, Michigan, Arizona, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania - as Election Day voting was underway,

Nearly 30 bomb threat hoaxes have targeted election-related locations nationwide in the US, a report said Tuesday. CBS News reported the news, citing two sources familiar with the matter. Citing two people familiar with the investigation, the outlet said around 17 fake bomb threats have targeted the state of Georgia alone.

The FBI is aware of bomb threats to polling locations in several states, many of which appear to originate from Russian email domains. None of the threats have been determined to be credible thus far.

“In 15 days, over 410 domestic and international flights operated by the Indian carriers have received hoax bomb threats,” said the report, adding that most of the threats were issued through social media. On Oct 28 alone, such threats were issued to more than 60 flights.

Bomb threats wreaked havoc at dozens of polling sites across at least five pivotal swing states on Tuesday. Voting precincts in Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Arizona were targeted with emailed threats,

An already heated presidential race faced further strain from a string of reported bomb threats in battleground states—causing some delays on Election Day.

"Unfortunately, when something bad happens, it is often claimed to be of Russian origin," a Russian official told Newsweek.

Hoax bomb threats targeting polling places and election offices briefly disrupted voting in five battleground states, with the FBI saying the threats in four of those states came from Russian email domains.

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger confirmed Tuesday a bomb threat was made against a polling place, but he said it was of Russian origin and not credible. Raffensperger later clarified in a subsequent press conference that the threat affected between five and seven precincts in multiple Georgia counties.
