Georgia’s state House wants to spend more on Hurricane Helene relief and is cutting some of Gov. Brian Kemp’s prison and construction spending proposals to do so

The Georgia House passed an amended budget on Thursday which includes billions of dollars on everything from storm relief, prisons and even the Super Bowl in 2028. This budget helps get the state through the rest of the fiscal year. If the Senate approves it, it will mean hundreds of millions of dollars for hurricane-damaged parts of this state.

ATLANTA, GA — The Georgia House overwhelmingly approves the state’s amended 2025 budget that includes millions for Hurricane Helene relief, state prison improvements, and school safety.

The state House backed a revised $40.5 billion spending plan for this year that sets aside hundreds of millions of dollars for hurricane relief and to close security gaps in the state’s prisons. As of now,

Senate Bill 52, the Timberlands Recovery, Exemption and Earnings Stability, or TREES, Act, would provide for economic relief and exemptions on taxes to those working in the Georgia timber industry.
