A multiyear deal with Uber Technologies is set to begin with a pilot at select Olive Garden locations this year. Darden has long refused to allow third-party delivery companies to handle its food at a large scale.

Darden Restaurants plans to start delivering Olive Garden food via Uber later this year, according to a Thursday announcement from the company.

Darden Restaurants, which owns Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse and other chains, said Olive Garden will be the first of its brands to offer third-party delivery starting later this year. Individual orders will be picked up and delivered by Uber Direct,
