NBA trade season is arriving, and Memphis continues to be brought up in the conversation around disgruntled Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler.

According to the latest reporting from Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps of ESPN, Memphis is “lurking” in trade talks for the 35-year-old. However, there seems to be a wider plan for the team which includes having Butler for a hopeful long playoff run and “free cap space this summer.”

The Miami Heat were expected to be a contender in the Eastern Conference this year, similar to how they’ve been competitive for the past few seasons. However, the relationship between the organization and Jimmy Butler has turned sour.

Butler has been with the Heat since 2019. The No. 30 pick by the Chicago Bulls has spent time with the Minnesota Timberwolves and Philadelphia 76ers. Butler is averaging 17 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.8 assists this season.
