Meteor’s thunder-like noise was a sonic boom, not the sound of explosion

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The meteor that slashed through the Earth’s atmosphere Tuesday morning rattling nerves across Northeast Ohio could be heard far and wide because it broke the sound barrier, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Jim Sullivan.
