DFL and Republican caucuses in the Senate started operating on a power-sharing agreement on the first day of the 2025 Legislative session,

After two weeks of successful power-sharing, the Senate will revert to a majority following Tuesday’s special election. The vacancy was created following the Dec. 28 death of Sen. Kate Dziedzic.

A tie in the Minnesota Senate should end Tuesday as voters decide who will fill the seat of the late Sen. Kari Dziedzic, who died of cancer last month.

The DFL's Doron Clark faces Republican Abigail Wolters in the Senate District 60 special election, which includes northeast Minneapolis and the U of M campus.
