Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry issued a statewide hiring freeze Wednesday as the state faces a budget shortfall and voters rejected a proposed amendment that would have generated funding for teacher pay raises in next year's spending plan.

Governor Jeff Landry issued an executive order calling for a hiring freeze on Wednesday. It comes after Louisiana voters rejected Amendment 2 following the March 29 Election. Landry said the order aims to save $20 million this year in state general funds.
