“The Pittsburgh Pirates are acquiring right-hander Chase Shugart in a trade with the Boston Red Sox for right-hander Matt McShane, according to sources familiar with the deal. Shugart was recently designated for assignment by the Red Sox,” Murray wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

The Red Sox and Pirates have been frequent trade partners in the last year. Last July, the Sox sent infielder Nick Yorke to Pittsburgh in exchange for starting pitcher Quinn Priester. More recently, the Sox sent infielder Enmanuel Valdez to the Pirates in December and obtained reliever Joe Vogatsky.

The Boston Red Sox were recently listed as one of the top teams that could emerge in the pursuit of a trade for pitcher Michael King.

The San Diego Padres and one of their starters are headed to an arbitration hearing. The rift between the two sides could mean the team is open to trading King.
