It's been a wonderful life for Mark O'Meara. The 16-time winner on the PGA Tour and three-time winner on the PGA Tour Champions announced he's hanging up the golf spikes and putting away the tour bag for good after the 2024 Pure Insurance Championship.

In 1984, O’Meara, the Rookie of the Year in 1982, made his first run for a title at Pebble, finishing in a tie for third. All was not lost, however. He and his amateur partner, J.P. Diesel, a Texas oil executive, won the pro-am with a best-ball score of 31 under.

Mark O'Meara is ready to retire and he couldn't have picked a better spot. The Pure Insurance Championship at Pebble Beach will be his final event.

O'Meara, inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2015 at a ceremony at St Andrews, ends his career with 16 wins on the PGA Tour, three on the European tour, two on the Japan Golf Tour, one on the PGA Tour of Australasia and the 1994 Argentina Open.

Sophia Waddell is more than familiar with the Monterey Peninsula from her days living in San Luis Opisbo. “We used to travel up there every year or so to go and stay there and just go around the town and see everything and go to the beach," said Waddell, 16 and now a junior at Palm Desert High School.
