Trump announced that starting February, a 10% import tax will be imposed on goods from eight European nations that have rallied around Denmark in the wake of his stepped up calls for the United States to take over the semi-autonomous Danish territory of Greenland.

White House border czar Tom Homan said that after conversations with local leaders in the state, a plan is in the works to reduce the number of federal agents in the area. But he stressed the need for cooperation from the state to make that happen.

The president's signature comes just hours after the House sent the legislation, which includes a continuing resolution to keep the Department of Homeland Security funded through Feb. 13, to Trump's desk.
