As longtime conference opponents in the Western Athletic Conference and Mountain West, the rivalry game always took place in mid-to-late November. This will be the first year since 1967 that the rivalry game will take place before November as conference opponents. Last November, BYU edged Utah 22-21 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

BYU’s 2025 conference schedule is a mixed bag, but overall, it’s more positive than negative. Yes, the Cougars have one of the toughest 3-game stretches in Big 12 play, but at least they have a bye during that time to help break it up.

With the Big 12 releasing its 2025 schedule Tuesday morning, BYU finally knows its official football slate for the fall. The Cougars are headed into their third year in the conference, having finished 7-2 in league play in 2024 as one of the most surprising and impressive squads in the country.
