Authorities said Tuesday that a man who attacked rapper Tory Lanez in a California prison is an inmate serving a life sentence for second-degree murder who was previously convicted for an in-prison assault with a deadly weapon.

Now serving his 10-year prison sentence at the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi, Calif., Lanez has released music. He launched a "Prison Tapes" series, in which he released several singles from behind bars, though he wrote on Instagram in September 2024 that the project had been discontinued.

Tory Lanez was stabbed 14 times in prison and is now recovering, according to a statement posted to his social media.
