The Rays made a flurry of roster moves, placing Brandon Lowe on the IL with a foot injury and trading for Stuart Fairchild.

Lowe was quickly activated on Friday, but appeared in just two games before the Rays announced today he will return to the IL with left ankle/foot tendinitis. In a corresponding move, the team acquired outfielder Stuart Fairchild from the Atlanta Braves for cash considerations.

The Atlanta Braves feel there is no need to rush the recovery of their All-Star third baseman. Meanwhile, they flip an outfielder to Tampa Bay

As the MLB trade deadline approaches, the Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays have been tied to one another in a rare in-division deal.

The Red Sox are now 54-48 and hold the third American League Wild Card spot. They also are still within striking distance in the AL East. They have some needs to address leading up to the trade deadline.
