Starbucks is trying to fix falling sales by changing its vibe back to coffee-house roots. The new CEO says parts of the plan, like free non-dairy milk, are helping bring people back.

Starbucks will trim "roughly 30%" of its menu items by the end of the 2025 fiscal year, CEO Brian Niccol said Tuesday.

Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) reported better-than-expected fiscal first-quarter results, with shares climbing over 3% in after-hours trading. The coffee giant posted earnings per share of $0.69 on revenue of $9.

Starbucks is to install panic buttons for staff as it cracks down on customers who sit in its shops or try to use its lavatories without buying anything.

“Today, I’m making a commitment: We’re getting back to Starbucks,” he wrote. “We’re refocusing on what has always set Starbucks apart — a welcoming coffeehouse where people gather, and where we serve the finest coffee, handcrafted by our skilled baristas. This is our enduring identity. We will innovate from here.”

Starbucks fans can now get free refills for some drinks — but not all. The coffee chain is also bringing back its self-serve milk and sweeteners bar.

Starbucks customers in the U.S. and Canada will notice some changes when they visit a Starbucks location on Monday, including the re-introduction of condiment bars.
