The State Bar of Texas’ website said Teare was not eligible to practice law, but hours later it changed. When asked, Teare’s team, told KPRC 2 Investigates it was a misunderstanding.

The Texas bar reinstated Teare’s law license retroactively after a four-day suspension caused by nonpayment of an administrative fee.

Sean Teare is sworn in as Harris County's new district attorney after winning the election, promising immediate reforms and efficiency.

"The citizens of this community are going to be proud of this institution again," Sean Teare told ABC13, saying he's ready to lead a staff of more than 400 and improve criminal justice in the nation's third-largest county.

Before taking office, Teare had worked with a law firm representing one of the accused former staffers. He also received an endorsement from Hidalgo during his primary election campaign, in which he defeated incumbent Kim Ogg.
