The San Francisco Giants hired former Tennessee baseball coach Tony Vitello as their new manager.

Vitello ultimately chose to accept the Giants’ offer to become their manager after he was courted throughout October.

Vitello is the first manager in big-league history to jump directly from a college baseball dugout — he was previously the manager at the University of Tennessee — to the highest level of the game.
