T exas House Democrats who left the state to prevent a vote on new congressional maps will return to Texas, feeling they have accomplished their mission of killing the first special session, raising awareness and sparking national backlash about the mid-decade redistricting, multiple sources confirmed to ABC station KTRK and ABC News on Tuesday.

Democrats who are eyeing Texas’ Senate seat next year have upped their ad spending and media appearances while embracing clashes with Republican leaders.

Texas Democratic lawmakers are currently holding a members-only meeting and discussing next steps as they weigh how long to continue to remain out of the state and block a new congressional map, three sources close to the caucus told CNN.
