Residents at the Einstein Healthcare Network, which is now part of Jefferson Health, voted overwhelmingly at the start of 2025 to form a union with the Committee of Interns and Residents; whereas residents at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia voted narrowly against it late last year.

Doctors at another Philadelphia hospital have voted to unionize, and two more groups of physicians could soon join them.

CHOP residents joined thousands of physicians in training around the region to announce plans to unionize in November. A month later, CHOP voted against unionizing by a 17-vote margin.

The doctors-in-training at Thomas Jefferson and Temple hospitals are expected to decide whether to organize in the coming weeks.

Resident physicians and fellows at Einstein Healthcare Network, which is owned by Jefferson Health, voted to unionize on Wednesday, joining a broader labor organizing movement among physicians in the Philadelphia area and nationally.
