The Nintendo Switch 2 has smashed its own sales record by becoming the fastest selling Nintendo game system ever with more than 3.5 million units sold in just four days.

After a long wait filled with leaks, reveals, preorder stress, and hands-on events, the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch day has finally arrived around the world, including launch events at retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Best Buy, and Target.

The Nintendo Switch 2 improves on one of the best consoles ever with smoother gameplay, a better design and some fun new tricks, but you can probably wait a bit to buy one.

Nintendo has sold more than 3.5 million Nintendo Switch 2 game consoles worldwide in the first four days since launch.

Mario Kart World was tested on Nintendo Switch 2. Pokémon Legends: Z-A will arrive on October 16, 2025, but pre-orders begin on June 5. The Pokémon Company also announced new Mega Evolution merchandise (available now on the Pokémon Center) and confirmed the Pokémon Presents presentation coming July 22.

In 2025, there are alternatives for dedicated gamers after greater performance. The Steam Deck most prominently (particularly for how it too can be used as a co-op console, albeit less. elegantly without removable Joy-Cons), but even the PlayStation Portal can be regarded as a decent in-home handheld.

Playing a Pokémon game at 60fps has been a wonderful experience on Switch 2, and while the game still looks like an original Switch game (or even worse, at times) it’s so much better to play and experience on the new console.
