On the eve of the Terrapins' showdown with Florida, Willard didn't answer questions about the Wildcats' coaching vacancy
Kevin Willard has been rumored to be leaving Maryland for Villanova, and it seems that move may be imminent after the Terps' Sweet 16 loss
Kevin Willard was a Big East head coach for Seton Hall from 2010 to 2022. He's been Maryland's head coach for three seasons.
Maryland coach Kevin Willard declined to say whether he had spoken to Villanova administrators about its open coaching vacancy following a season-ending 87-71 loss to No. 1 seed Florida in the Sweet 16 on Thursday.
If I’m Maryland, I’m going to do what it takes to keep Kevin Willard,” TBS analyst and former NBA coach Stan Van Gundy said.
Willard has been at Maryland for three seasons. He joined the Terps after spending 12 years as the head coach for Seton Hall. Williams began his head coaching career at New Orleans but really took off when he became the head coach at Marquette. In the 2012-13 season, he led the Golden Eagles to the Elite Eight.

"Right now my biggest concerns in life are, I don’t know who my boss is going to be,” Willard said after his team's loss to Florida.
Willard, who had been remarkably open and unfiltered over the past week, declined to talk about his future with the Terps on Wednesday.
He loves this job, he reiterated. He wants to be at Maryland. He left Seton Hall for this job because he grew up watching Steve Francis play and Gary Williams coach. The tradition of Maryland basketball energized him. The possibilities excite him.
