Gov. Kathy Hochul gave her annual State of the State address on Tuesday, proposing dozens of initiatives to make the state more affordable for residents, fight crime and protect the public, provide more affordable housing, guard against extreme weather, protect the environment, improve mental health care and strengthen the economy.

Child care, housing costs and public safety were the New York governor’s top issues as she outlined her policy plans for the year and for a re-election fight in 2026.

Gov. Kathy Hochul will take a look back at the past year in New York during her State of the State address Wednesday. Hochul is expected to start the state’s 57th annual address around 1 p.m. in Albany.
