Dan Sheehan's remarkable recovery from the anterior cruciate ligament injury has made him available to be part of Ireland's Six Nations squad.

Interim Ireland head coach Simon Easterby has named uncapped Leinster prop Jack Boyle in a 36-man squad for the Guinness Six Nations. The 22-year-old Boyle has been selected ahead of Ulster’s Tom O’Toole, who is unavailable for his country’s first two games of the tournament due to suspension following his red card against Munster.

In all, 25 of last season’s initial 34-man squad are back a year on, and of the nine who are not still in situ, seven are injured. Of the matchday 23 which sealed the title at home to Scotland last March, all but Harry Byrne, now on loan on Bristol after falling down the Leinster pecking order, and the injured Jordan Larmour, retain their places
