MOVE was a Black liberation group founded in the early 1970s in Philadelphia by Vincent Leaphart, who later changed his name to John Africa. The group combined Black nationalist ideas with a back-to- nature lifestyle, rejecting modern conveniences, advocating for animal rights, and resisting governmental authority, which they saw as oppressive.

More human remains from a 1985 police bombing on the headquarters of a Black liberation group in Philadelphia have been found at the University of Pennsylvania.

They are believed to be from a 12-year-old who was among 11 people killed during a police-led confrontation with the anti-government group MOVE.

Penn Museum finds more remains believed to belong to Delisha Africa, a child victim of the 1986 MOVE bombing, during an inventory review.

The remains are believed to be those of a 12-year-old, one of five children and six adults killed when police bombed the MOVE organization’s headquarters.

The bones match records for 12-year-old Delisha Africa, who was among 11 people who died when police dropped explosives on a West Philly rowhome in 1985.
